Hi it’s Karen again with Wellness Works NW. Take a deep breath for me. Breathe in the through your nostrils and out through your mouth. It is really simple but most of us are very shallow breathers, especially when we are exercising which leads to us holding our breath and that is not good.

My friend John, who used to teach a Zumba class at Forever Fit Gym, used to talk about breathing. He would have you breathe in deeply and then breathe it all out. He would say breathe in all the good stuff and then breathe out all that Ca Ca! Good bye Ca Ca! This was a great way to remind us all to breathe.

Relaxing is so important. I was reading the other day that the only real things we will change in the next 5 years are the books we read and the people we spend time with. The people we spend time with cause us to change in the ways we think or do things. Right now we are doing a lot of Zoom time to stay in touch with each. We need that social time, especially in the last two months because of the lockdown.

The gym is not open yet but it is coming!

Some people we talk to love to exercise. When you are exercising with someone it is good to try different things. Your body gets used to doing things one way and when you mix it up, your body really reacts! it is good to be cautious and kind to yourself when you are first starting to change how you move but realize that it is really good to take the time to breathe while you are moving. When you are making and following your wellness plan your are making a commitment to your own excellence with fitness and nutrition.

Stretching is super important. Even when you are work it is good to stretch and breathe.

Today we are going to do some work on the floor to strengthen our core. When you are going from a sitting position to laying down on the floor go slow. Move back slowly, vertebrae by vertebrae; take your time. When you get down on the floor make sure to breathe. You want to make sure your back is on the floor, you don’t want it arched. Get used to breathing.

We will focus on a few types of leg lifts and twists while breathing deeply.

Enjoy the people are hanging out with and read those books!
