Hey Everybody! It’s Karen from Wellness Works NW! Boy was it hot today! That’s ok. We are enjoying our summertime! I hope you are having a really good summer!

That blast of joy. When you think about different things in life, when you were about 18 to 26 years old, and somebody asked what the best time of your life was, you might have told them about the first time on a motorcycle or about your first car that could go really fast, but when you get older that flash of joy might come from the look in your child’s eyes when you taught them to ride a bide. So there is big shift from, it is all about me, to what can I do for you. That change is really awesome and I bet many of you out there know exactly what I am talking about.

Carl Jung, a famous psychiatrist in the early to mid-1900’s, used to say that change is really what life is about. If you can depict that point when it all stopped being about you and started being about someone else, maybe you started to volunteer, you wanted to give of your time and money, if you have money to give, or whatever is really precious to you, that is that flash of joy I am talking about.

I belong to several different boards and I enjoy that because I always feel like I am giving back. All I have to give is time, but that time is so very valuable and important. As we share that together we begin to create an important connection. Making those connections is really the most important thing in life, so as we face challenges, the kids are going back to school, and it is different this year, I just want you to focus on those connections and flashes of joy. So struggle really had to make those connections because it is going to make you a lot happier. Sometimes the details are overwhelming, the joys in the mundane, make those things happen but keep in mind, those connections you have with people, and maintaining those relations is really important.

A lot of times in a relationship there is that person that calls everyone and does all emailing and communicating, they keep things together, but when they stop doing that, you really notice. Keeping those connections is really important. Especially at a time of crisis, which we are in. So make sure you are connecting. I am sure you have friends that you connect with for exercising. Maybe you can’t get into the gym yet but you can do things together. Maybe you can walk together or exercise together. If you have a ball and your friend has a ball, you guys could call each other, get on Messenger and work out together. Don’t lose that connection. That is the true flash of joy you need.

Now it is time to do some exercising! There is something about exercising that really make those endorphins pop, and you could get on a Stability Ball and just go! You sit on this thing, nice and easy. When you first get started it might be hard but it will get better. Just sitting on the ball works your abs. When you are sitting on the ball you want to try to turn a bit when you are working on your abs. You want to reach across your lap to the opposite side. You can do that reaching down to your toes and also up high to work those abs. Another good exercise is to touch your opposite elbow to your knee.

You can do this. Make those connections. I am sending positive prayers and positive vibes!
