Hi Everybody! It is Karen with Wellness Works NW. How you doing? I hope you are enjoying your summer. We are having beautiful weather.
A lot times we think about things and we say I need that jumpstart because I need to do something. We were doing really good, working out the way we are supposed to and then we stop because something happened: the quarantine, some loss. It take so much more energy to get going again. What I want to do today is give you that jumpstart.
I want to beg you to never, ever give up, as Winston Churchill said. You can’t give up. This is the whole key.
When Michael Jordan was in 8th grade he tried really hard to get into basketball. He couldn’t get his rhythm right. Even though this was Michael Jordan, at this part of his life, he just couldn’t seem to get it right. He had a coach that would not let him on the team because he didn’t know the fundamentals. Jordan was devastated! The coach actually told him he didn’t have what it takes. From that moment on Jordan decided to prove him wrong. And he did. Jordan practiced harder than anyone else. He did everything he could to get better because he knew he could do it and he was not going to give up.
After Jordan had won many rings and achieved a lot he invited that old coach to a big awards ceremony because every time he was doing a layup or making a basket he could see this coach’s face. The coach was feeling a bit embarrassed because he knew he had been wrong about Jordan. So during Jordan’s acceptance speech he thanked his teammates and everyone that was behind him and then he said he had a message for his 8th grade basketball coach, “You were wrong!”
The crowd went crazy and the coach was embarrassed…
So I can understand that you might fail. Things get in the way: You have a baby, your lose a job, Haagen Dazs comes out with a new ice cream….it doesn’t take very much. Anything can distract you from success. But I just want you to get started again. If you can just get started again and never let any negativity hold you back you can reach your goals. If somebody told you something negative about your body in the past, think about that and know that they were wrong. THEY WERE WRONG! You know why? Because you are never going to give up. You’re never going to give up on yourself. If you can take care of everyone else, you gotta take care of yourself first.
I don’t want you to give up. I want you to be like Michael Jordan and say, “You were wrong!”
I bet you are thinking let’s move it, move it, move it! Let’s do a few High Knees! Nice and easy. If you have difficulties I don’t want you to hurt yourself. If you can’t get your knees up high, try just kicking out your feet. Every exercise can be modified for your needs.
Never give up! Never!
If you want to start small and work up. Maybe you will decide you want to do the Boston Marathon or maybe you just want to get up and do a few stretches and have the energy chase your grandkids. Whatever your goal is, you can do it.
I suggest you do High Knees for about 30 seconds to get your heart rate up.
I do a lot of planking. I do planking for my waist line. I have been working on me for a long time then I stopped and then I started again. When I was a kid I was not athletic, I am still not athletic, but I don’t let that stop me at all. You just gotta keep moving.
You start in the pushup position when you are planking. You want to try to do this for 10 seconds when you first start. Make sure to squeeze those butt cheeks. Keep everything nice and straight and tuck in those abs.
Our last exercise are Kick Backs. Kick Back as high as you can. If you can’t go fast, go slow. Modify baby! These are good for the quads.
You know what you are not going to give up. This is me giving you a jumpstart. Don’t let what anyone tells you about you to stop you. I am sending positive prayers and vibes!
Call or text me at 360-447-8061 and we can talk about your success! I can’t wait to hear from you!
