Whoa! It’s Play Time guys! This is Karen from Wellness Works NW and I am so excited because sports are almost back! My Seahawks will be back August 13th and I am so excited about that. The NBA is going to be here July 31st! Baseball and hockey are coming back too! Things are going to be different this year. We have all had to pivot around COVID-19 but it is going to work out. Our Cowlitz County Black Bears are a B baseball team, they are not pros yet and they have decided to not come back this year. But it is so exciting to know that all these things are coming back, isn’t it?

Sports play such a large role in so many people’s lives, especially my life and although it is going to be different, it is nice that sports are coming back! I have always enjoyed sports. We are going to be excited to see them and since we are going to be able to watch sports at home we should also create some play time at home.

A lot of people don’t like to make time to exercise but everyone likes to play and even though you might not be playing sports, you still like to play. I like to bring the play element into exercise. We can do this anywhere, even in the living room. Now that we are spending so much more time at home, some of you are even working from home, so we have to be little different. This creates a way that the family can be active together and “play” even with the kids! The adrenaline rush that sports give us is amazing and it will help us have better play time.

I want you to try to get out a bit for play time because it is important. The CDC has said that as a nation we are just not exercising as we should so I want to encourage you to move. They have a goal to see this increase by 2027 so lets beat them to the punch.

Today I want to encourage you to work your triceps. You know that part of your arm, that when you are waving, that it is sometimes waving too? We are going to work on that muscle. Most people have something they want to improve on and today we are going to work on triceps. This is a great one to do at the house with the kids. Grab a chair and sit at the edge. Your arms need to be on the seat and you can drop your torso down to work those arms. If you have some resistance bands, they come in different sizes and shapes. The ones I am using are a bit long so I wrap them around my hands and pull the band behind my back to work those triceps. This is something you could do while you watch TV.  Tricep extensions are good too. Wrap the band around your hips and lift up with your hands to work those arms.

Have some fun. Get your kids to join in. Have some play time.

I am sending positive prayers and vibes and make sure to PLAY! Thank you so much for joining me!
