Hi there Everybody! This is Karen with Wellness Works NW and I was just sitting here thinking about the word “Driven.” You think of very successful people being very driven. In order to be driven, you gotta have the right fuel, right? You definitely need to eat right and do the things that make you feel like you have the energy you need to make things happen. A plan for this is really important.

Now when you think about it physically, you have to think about what you need to eat, you need to consider what your body needs. Really think about it. Consider what your changes will be if you don’t follow through so you don’t end up running through a drive thru to grab something to eat. You need fuel and you need to realize what your body needs. You need to think about this from an emotional level too because it needs to be a situation that give you the right results. It takes a lot of thinking but you have to think about it with the end in mind.

Years and years ago there was a really popular book called The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen R. Covey and it taught is to consider things with the end of mind. It is an old book but it still very helpful. You must define your why and you must keep that why really big in your mind. This is how you will keep this hope in mind of how you will succeed at your wellness goals. You must keep your why ready and available.

I want to have more energy. I want to be able to see my niece graduate. Whatever it is that drives you, you must keep this at the forefront of your mind and it might help you to write this down. Now I write everything down. But when you write things down it feels more like a commitment. You must give that commitment a date like: I am going to stop eating so much sugar. I am going to cut back on my sugar intake by 30% and I am going to do this on Monday. Make goals that you can achieve because that is how you keep your hope alive. If you make a goal like: I am only going to vegetables from here on out, the minute your are tempted and give into it, then you have failed.

You are worth the effort to reach your wellness goals. Having a Wellness Plan is going to help you keep your hope alive and help you reach those goals. If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email at karen@wellnessworksnw.com or you can call or text me at 360-447-8061 and we can talk about your success!

I want to encourage you in making a decision, which I have found, is often a family-decision. Once you make this decision and watch yourself as you keep succeeding you will do this. You are worth it, no matter what anyone else has ever told you.

So now we are going do some exercises. Grab your chair. I want you to start getting up more. I want you to be able to stretch anywhere that you are. So stand behind the chair and keep your feet a little wider than a shoulder-width apart. While you are coming down towards the chair, I want you to go nice and easy and I want you to be thinking about what you are going to be doing next and what your goals are. The farther you put your feet back, the deeper the stretch is going to be as you bend down toward the back of the chair. You can use your hands to steady yourself.

Now when you are sitting, because I know a lot of you have to sit to work, just getting those legs ups and out is good. In a seated position I want you to bring your legs up, slowly. Then I want you to stretch your arms up and down. Another exercise you can do is just flexing your feet back, or while keeping your heals on the floor, stretch your feet back toward your legs. These are very simple exercises but every move you make increases your blood flow and engages important muscles.

I can’t wait to hear from you! I am sending positive vibes and positive prayers. See you soon!
