In one of my last articles I wrote about What Are Ketones, what they are what their job is in our bodies. In this article I will tackle the subject of Ketoacidosis.

Being a diabetic and deciding to do the Keto Eating Plan means I have to be keenly aware of where my keto levels are. Ketoacidosis happens when ketosis has gone too far. That means the ketones in our bodies build up in your blood and it has become too high in acidity.

We don’t want that.

Ketoacidosis is deadly. So as diabetics we need to be on guard and watchful of our levels. Eating a Keto Diet or even taking the Keto Supplement from Prüvit can and will help us, but like watching how much carbohydrates and what our blood sugars are, we need to include watching our ketone levels too.

Let me say it again: having ketoacidosis is deadly.  When our bodies are not making enough insulin then ketoacidosis can happen.

You can get ketoacidosis even if you are not a diabetic.

  • If you are not drinking enough fluids
  • If starve yourself
  • If you abuse alcohol or drugs
  • Have an overactive thyroid
  • Have experienced emotional trauma
  • Have experienced physical trauma
  • Have had a heart attack
  • Certain meds that have corticosteroids or diuretics in them.

signs of ketoacidosisIf you experience any of the symptoms of ketoacidosis get to the hospital right away so that they can treat you with fluids and electrolytes such as sodium potassium, chloride, and insulin.

The symptoms are:

  • Flushed skin
  • Feeling sick to your stomach
  • Throwing up
  • Trouble breathing
  • Confusion
  • Fruity smelling breath
  • Pain in belly
  • Thirstiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Peeing a lot
  • Feeling tired
  • Dry skin

Living well is something that we all want. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and just want to give up. I know I have experienced these emotions as I have manuvered my way through finding my own wellness path. One way to be a good advocate for yourself is to know the information and to share with others. For me, keto is a good choice in that if I balance the fat, protein, and the carbs right then my blood sugars will not be high.

If you have any questions ask your health care professional or you can ask on this article and I will try and find the answer for you. Karen G Clemenson is also a good source of information also, especially if you want to try the Prüvit supplements.
